French: Un Orangina, s'il vous plaît

In France, people love to sit in cafés and leisurely savor a cup of hot chocolate, an Orangina, or a Coca Light. For this reason, the girls have been learning drink vocabulary in French class. They have been discussing their likes and dislikes and ordering drinks in Parisian cafés. In the pictures below, they are pretending to be waitresses and customers. Afterwards, we celebrated the end of our unit by tasting Orangina in class. Mmmm c'est bon !

Art_The Zoo Exhibit Design Project Begins

What do you get when you mix science, technology, art, and one of the city's greatest resources? A great opportunity for a design project. The girls will be designing an exhibit for an animal in technology and art. The project started with a visit from the ZooMobile. Two educators from The Maryland Zoo (Mr. Tim and Mr. Jeff) brought four animals (bearded dragon, kookaburra, black footed African penguin and chinchilla) to visit the girls.  They learned about the animals' specific habitats and special characteristics. They were introduced to the different relationships important to exhibit design - the relationship between the visitor, the animal, and the zookeeper.  Working in partners the girls will design  an exhibit for another animal. In the spring they will visit the zoo and compare their designs to the same animals' exhibits there. Ask your daughter what animal she is researching. Also, ask her which group she was in during the polar bear exhibit example. Here are some pictures of the experience so far:
