Apps

Throughout the year, students learn various apps in many subjects.  Instead of giving a list of specific apps, we suggest that parents use Common Sense Media to find desired apps because parents have many different types of devices at home.  This site allows you to search based on your daughter's needs.  You can sort by age, device type, price, subject, and more!  Additionally, this site provides a rating out of 5 stars.  If you have any questions, feel free to email me at carusoa@brynmawrschool.org

VALUES

In 2nd grade, your girls and I spoke about the Value of Patience.
They defined it as: " waiting" and shared many stories of all the times and ways they have waited. We all agreed that this is an essential life skill, and that all of us, children and adults, need to learn to wait.
I guided the girls with ways to "practice patience" by using their wonderful
brains: using their imagination, writing a story in their head, practicing their
math facts, working on their spelling words, reading, breathing, etc.
Ask your girls how they are practicing patience.

Art_Color Shows Feeling

The girls are working in full color these days and exploring how color is used by artists and illustrators to show feelings.  Below are three books that show different ways color can be used to show how the feeling changes in the story. Ask your daughter which one changes the color on the background, which one outlines the characters, and which one is monochromatic?

The girls are telling their own color/feeling change story in a four page book. We are using an advanced feeling chart to learn some new feelings. See below! Some ideas include being nervous coming to a new school, falling on the playground, getting exhausted walking to the ballgame, playing with cousins, fighting with siblings, and making new friends.

SPIRIT DAY FUN IN 2nd GRADE!!

 MS. ORLANDO'S HOMEROOM

   MRS. ROESSLER'S HOMEROOM

Technology in the Creation Station

In the beginning of the year, the girls learned the routines and expectation of the Creation Station as well as an iPad basics review.  Next, the girls began working on creating a book about summer in the app Book Creator.  Students were asked to create a book that had a cover and at least two pages with text and drawings.  Once every book was complete, the girls learned how to project on the board using AirPlay.
